Success in the arts

I find the notion of success in the Arts a really interesting conversation. So often it appears tied up with finance or perhaps some form of accolade.. However to me success is having the focus and courage to create a piece of work and once completed share that body of work with others, and in doing so letting go of expectation that it will be received in some way that leads to....... for as Artists if we base our success on others reception of our work we are doomed, in my opinion, to a life of suffering. If we base our success on recognition/fame again we are treading on melting ice. Success for me as an artist is waking up happy, healthy, with community, family, a roof over my head and art that is true to my heart, with the knowledge that it might not be loved or liked by any other.
