How you navigate the balance between different professional worlds and stay authentic?

Life is fascinating. I was talking with my assistant, and thank god for her! I count my blessings every day as we go through admin, creative planning, album releases, tours and retreat designs. Without her I think I would be just going round and round in circles of to-do lists!

Part of today’s discussion was around the dichotomy of what it is to be both artist and facilitator, and how to navigate releasing a record whilst also working as a wellbeing facilitator in the corporate world, working 1-2-1 and with groups? When each different world has its own set of marketing & branding, values, criteria, judgements, and stereotypes.

FYI, my life plan was not to be a wellbeing facilitator; I have written songs and performed them since I was 14.  However, now I am both, facilitator and artist. I write & release records and also, using Qi Gong, meditation, and voice practices, help individuals and teams to:

·  Cultivate more resilience thus avoiding burnout.
·  Nourish their mental health and thus reduce depression & anxiety.
·  Communicate with more clarity and confidence.
·  Access innovative thinking, boost energy levels and immunity.

In essence to live happier, healthier more embodied lives.

As an artist, my journey has been like many others: full of burnout and breakdown. However, through my own recovery process, I discovered the world of Qi Gong, trained as a teacher, then as a sound therapist, then as a creative facilitator. What I discovered was a set of embodied skills & tools to help others avoid burnout and cultivate better mental health.

So, I am continually curious about other performers & artists, who walk between these two worlds.

Then I read about Ruby Wax’s upcoming retreat at Broughton Hall. Small trumpet-blowing interval: I am on their newsletter because I previously worked there with Goldman Sachs (it was amazing and I still work 1-2-1 with a couple of the attendees).

Back to the point… I was curious by the article.  Initially sceptical, probably in the same way people have been dubious of my own transition from rock and roll to wellbeing coach. However, as I read, I became excited & intrigued by the work she is doing and this upcoming retreat.

'Ruby Wax comes together with Rahla Xenopoulos (mental health and empowerment expert) and Gelong Thubten (a Buddhist Monk) to guide on how to keep yourself mentally and emotionally healthy when the world is going crazy around you.

“The outside world may be in chaos, but if we know we’ve always got the house of “us” to come back to, we will always have a refuge. The aim of this retreat is to help you find that refuge, or at least help you build one. We offer this retreat as a guide to help bulk up our emotional resilience as far as learning to deal with the unknown.” Ruby Wax
